Learning Complex Skills
Nov 1, 2023
Complex skills can be broken down into minor skills, which we call component skills. Seen this way, learning complex skills becomes a task list that needs each component to be ticked off. Learning how to take out the trash, how to clean up a room is simple because of this task list approach; anyone can follow the list and practice each step.
However, practising component skills individually is only feasible in a few cases because these are utilized simultaneously. Even so, when stumbled across a complex skill, it is beneficial to
- analyze and get a grasp of the concept/skill
- plan out a roadmap consisting of component skills
- group component skills by similarity or use
- practice the whole skill while focusing on each component skill group separately
This broad separation and specialized focus on distinct component skill groups can help crack down the concept or the complex skill.
